Idar (also written LIDAR o LiDAR) is a remote sensing technlogy that measures distance by illuminating a target with a laser and analyzing the reflected light.
Although widely considered to be an acronym of Light Detection and Ranging, the term lidar was created as a portmanteau of “light” and ”radar”. Lidar is populary used as technology to make high-resolution maps, with applications in geomatics, archaeology, geography, geology, geomorphology, seismology, forestry and contour mapping. There are Airborne Lidar, Mobile Lidar, Static 3D Lidar.
